One of the most puzzling statements in all of Scripture is found in Matthew 12:31-32 and Mark 3:28-29 where Jesus warns that those who have committed blaspheme against the Holy Spirit have committed an unforgivable sin. By contrast, Jesus states that blaspheme against the Son of Man (Jesus) is forgivable.

But it wasn’t until I took a closer look at the three-fold prayer of Jesus in John 17 that I realized where to find the highest standard by which to judge how the church is doing in this area–God Himself.
